England's Sam Curran Confidently Approaches the T20 World Cup Semi-Final Against India
England's all-rounder Sam Curran exudes confidence as they prepare to face India in the T20 World Cup semi-final, stating that they will not be intimidated by the raucous home crowd in Mumbai. With a place in the final against South Africa or New Zealand at stake, England will face the favorites and hosts in front of 35,000 passionate fans.
Curran, who plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL), believes that his experience and familiarity with the grounds will be advantageous. He says, 'It's an experience as a young cricketer you dream of — playing India in the semi-final of a World Cup.'
Curran's journey back into the England squad has been remarkable. He was in international limbo a year ago but made a strong comeback with impressive performances in T20 franchise leagues, including the IPL. He adds, 'India are a quality side, but we've played a lot of cricket here. We know how to play on these grounds and what to expect.'
The IPL has significantly contributed to England's preparation. Curran explains, 'The IPL, no question, has helped a lot. Having played in the ground many times, there aren’t many unknowns.'
England's first match in the tournament against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium showcased their ability to handle a hostile crowd. Curran's nerveless bowling in the final over, conceding just five runs when Nepal needed 10, was a pivotal moment. He repeated this feat against Italy and has been a consistent contributor with both bat and ball, scoring 149 runs with a best of 43 not out.
Curran remains confident and positive, stating, 'We’re not fearing anything and I’m sure both teams are really excited by the challenge.' He adds, 'If the crowd is silent, England is probably doing well. That’s our positive way of looking at it.'
England has a strong history against India in T20 World Cup semi-finals, winning each time and eventually lifting the trophy. In 2022, they crushed India by 10 wickets in Adelaide and went on to beat Pakistan in the final. Two years ago, India won in Guyana by a dominant 68 runs before defeating South Africa in Barbados.
The semi-final against India will be a significant step towards the final, as Curran reflects, 'I guess this is what the last four or five weeks have been building for. And hopefully, we can take one more step towards the final.'
The T20 World Cup semi-final between England and India will be a thrilling encounter, with the winner advancing to the final against South Africa or New Zealand.
