Justin Thomas Returns to Golf! TGL Comeback Before PGA TOUR Season Debut (2026)

Bold statement: Justin Thomas is staging a comeback that could reshape the early pages of this golf season, but it won’t be on the PGA TOUR—yet. And this is the part most people miss: he’s returning in a high-profile, off-Tour event that could set the tone for his year.

Justin Thomas will return to competitive golf next week, but not on the PGA TOUR. The 16-time TOUR winner shared on social media that his first competitive appearance since microdiscectomy surgery will come with Atlanta Drive at TGL on Monday, February 23.

Thomas, 32, hasn’t struck a competitive ball since the Ryder Cup in September. He did, however, announce last week that he had been fully cleared for golf activity, posting a video of him driving on the range as a clear sign of progress.

Earlier this year, he indicated his season debut would come during the PGA TOUR Florida Swing. “I’m looking to come back competitively at some point during the Florida swing. I know how important it is to get this injury behind me so that I’m only looking forward over the course of the season,” Thomas wrote in January.

The surgery, performed in November at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery, addressed a disc issue that produced months of nagging hip discomfort. Throughout his rehab, he has shared progress clips of resistance-band work and ongoing updates with fans.

In 2024, Thomas was a standout performer for the FedExCup, finishing seventh in the 2025 standings and clinching the RBC Heritage title—his first win since the 2022 PGA Championship.

Atlanta Drive will play a TGL doubleheader on Monday: they meet Boston Common Golf at 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPN and Los Angeles Golf Club at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The team previously helped Atlanta Drive win the league’s inaugural TGL championship by taking the first SoFi Cup.

But here’s the twist: this return signals more than a single event. It’s a calculated step aimed at easing back into form, generating early-season momentum, and quietly testing his readiness for a PGA TOUR return later in the Florida Swing. Do you think starting in a TGL setting rather than a PGA TOUR event gives Thomas the best path back, or does it risk masking true competitive sharpness before the TOUR resumes?
