Will Kevin Feige Step Down as Marvel Studios President? The Future of the MCU (2026)

Kevin Feige is not likely to step down as President of Marvel Studios "anytime soon," despite ongoing speculation suggesting otherwise. Insiders close to the situation indicate that he will continue to lead the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for at least several more years, even in the face of unrelenting rumors.

It appears that Kevin Feige isn't ready to retire just yet. According to a recent article from Deadline, which reported on Disney's appointment of Josh D’Amaro as CEO and the successors of Bob Iger and Dana Walden, it was noted that discussions about Feige’s future are a favorite topic among industry insiders. However, those in the know believe there won't be any changes in leadership soon, especially since Feige is currently focused on delivering the next Avengers film set for a December release and reviving the X-Men franchise.

Interestingly, Feige has never publicly suggested that he plans to leave his position at Marvel Studios. Nonetheless, whispers of his potential departure have circulated since last year. Even during the peak of the MCU’s success, some critics have been calling for Feige to step down. This sentiment has grown even among some long-time fans who have recently begun questioning his ability to successfully guide the franchise.

Feige remains the highest-grossing film producer in history, with the various projects he's overseen amassing a staggering global box office total exceeding $31 billion. Nevertheless, recent Marvel movies, with the exceptions of Deadpool and Wolverine, have not performed as well as anticipated and many have received predominantly negative reviews from critics. While The Fantastic Four: First Steps garnered some appreciation, it did not achieve the blockbuster status the studio was likely hoping for.

Looking ahead, Avengers: Doomsday is almost guaranteed to be a significant box office hit and could potentially mark a new chapter for the franchise. Yet, there's a prevailing sentiment that the MCU is no longer the unstoppable force it once was, prompting many to argue that it might be time for Feige to allow someone else to take the helm and steer the franchise back on course.

What are your thoughts? Should Kevin Feige resign as President of Marvel Studios, or do you think it’s wiser to wait and see how the upcoming Doomsday and the Mutant Saga unfold before making any judgments?

AvengersDoomsday is currently in production.

The highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars faced notable delays last year, with their releases now scheduled for December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively. Both films will be directed by the Russo brothers, who are returning to the MCU after their successful work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

In a joint statement following the San Diego Comic-Con panel, the Russo brothers expressed, "Creating stories and exploring characters within the Marvel Universe has fulfilled a lifelong dream for us. We have established a powerful connection with audiences through each film we've made. We are excited to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou, and the entire Marvel team to take this epic storytelling adventure into new and unexpected directions for both ourselves and the fans."

The star-studded cast of Doomsday includes Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent.

Additionally, the film will feature Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and, of course, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
